JUNIOR KINDERGARTEN
4 year olds are divided into 2
separate classrooms.
One
classroom is for our younger fours, some of these children are
experiencing school for the first time. Their day is based on
learning time as well as free choice play.
(According to the Rhode Island Early Leaning Standards
children learn through play as well as structured
time.)
Our older fours have a slightly more
structured curriculum as well as free choice time. These children will be
moving into our Pre – kindergarten or will be attending our
full day kindergarten the following September.
All of these
children are very curious about learning new things and always
have plenty of questions to ask. They show initiative,
take risks, try new things and will even try different ways to
solve problems.
Friendships are important and it is our job to keep
these children excited about learning and coming to school
every day with enthusiasm and excitement
Both of these classrooms, as well as all of the
classes at
The Martin School, have time during the day to
access our
state-of-the-art computer room. Known as our
"All Purpose Room". With 4 computers, a listening center
for independent reading and an area filled with books and games,
this
room is an
integral part of the childrens learning
experience.
Activities in the room are both independently done as well as
teacher directed. These children have time outdoors twice a
day.
Each class goes outside separately to give the children plenty of
area to run, climb, slide and experience our state-of-the-art play
area.
